My journey into birth work started when I was just eight years old and I had the incredible opportunity to witness my baby brother be born. I discovered the incredible power that women have to birth their children into the world, to listen to one's intuition, and feel the sacred reverence of the birthing space that doesn’t exist anywhere else. In 2020, I found doula work and immediately jumped at the opportunity to support women in the emotional spaces of labor and delivery that too often get swept aside for the way of the medical. Both are important. Both are needed. To be a pillar of support for the mother and family so she can have the birthing experience of her dreams is my way of changing the world for the better, one birth at a time. I entered postpartum doula work after the birth of my son in 2023, when I felt the deep postpartum depression that comes from a great lack of support for the mother. As I did the work to come out of my disease, I decided I needed to do whatever was possible so I can help even just one other mother to not feel the same way I did.

I work inside a mother centered care model. This means I believe that parents intuitively know how to birth their babies, how to care for their babies, and how to care for each other. When parents have the foundational systems of support in place, they can access that intuitive knowledge easily. Part of my work with each client is to help provide those foundational support systems so they can tap back into that intuition and deeply believe in the wisdom it offers.

I am currently serving families here in Reno, NV, and serve any family that needs me and am a good fit for. I do not exclude based on religion, race, gender identity, or sexual orientation. EVERYONE deserves to be supported during birth and postpartum.

Outside of birthwork, I enjoy spending any free time I have with my son. We enjoy the farmers market, local parks, watching the ducks, going on runs, hiking, and listening to any live music we can find (and dance along of course!).

Hello! I'm Vernita, and I’m thrilled to introduce myself as passionate and experienced. For over 21 years, I’ve been a proud wife and mom to three amazing children, and my journey as a Birth/Board Certified/Postpartum Doula and Newborn Care Specialist has been nothing short of fulfilling. I’ve had the privilege of supporting families in various ways, from being by the side while giving birth. To overnight newborncare in clients homes to caring for babies that adapts seamlessly to each family’s unique needs. My experience includes working with preemies, multiples, and babies with medical needs, as well as volunteering in a women’s shelter to provide compassionate support for moms and children in a maternity house. These opportunities have strengthened my commitment to creating nurturing, safe, and loving environments for families.

Building genuine connections with families is at the heart of what I do. I bring patience, understanding, and honesty to every interaction, ensuring that parents feel supported. Helping families discover their personal rhythm and adjust to new stages of life is truly an honor, and I strive to be a reliable, empathetic, and uplifting part of their journey. When I’m not caring for little ones, you’ll find me enjoying walks, cheering on my son at his baseball games, writing, watching family movies, or exploring new destinations with my family. I would be delighted to bring my warmth, dedication, and expertise to your family and become a part of your village. I look forward to

Birth work has been calling me for years now. Outside of birth work I am a photographer and the need to document a story instead of curated moments was strong. Once I started documenting births, I found myself helping the birther and their family as much as I could. After about 10 births, I realized I was playing a bigger role than just a photographer. Adding Doula services has been the most fulfilling extension of my business. I am so honored to walk with families physically and emotionally during the biggest transition in a family’s life. I also love that I get to give them back the gift of a gallery that tells their journey through labor and delivery. I am located in Mound House. I serve the Northern Nevada area: Reno, Tahoe, Dayton, Fernley, Fallon, Gardnerville, Carson City, and the Carson Valley.

My own motherhood completely transformed the way I see postpartum care. After my first baby, I discovered just how uncertain and overwhelming this season could feel. I found myself second-guessing everything—struggling to trust my instincts, weighed down by conflicting advice, and wishing for reassurance that what I was feeling and experiencing was normal. Even with the help I had from my family, there were moments when I needed something different—professional guidance, extra practical help, or simply someone unbiased to remind me to trust myself and my baby.

I have always felt that my core purpose in this world was to help

people. I started that journey 8 years ago in veterinary medicine as a

licensed veterinary technician, advocating for animals and educating pet

parents along the way. After a traumatic long 64 hour birth with my son

in 2023, I was inspired by my own doula who guided me through the

toughest challenge i’ve ever faced. If I can help woman in the most

vulnerable stage of their lives, through all the magic and pain that is

childbirth and postpartum like my doula did for me, then I have fulfilled

my core purpose.

In 2019 I was pregnant with my first baby and my friend suggested I get a doula. I had never heard of one before and the concept of a doula was quite foreign! I decided to have one for my hospital birth and what a blessing it was to have my doula by my side for my first birth! I cannot imagine what it would have been like without her. I was so inspired by her calm, loving, supportive and nurturing energy. After I lost my job as a professor at American River due to Covid, I decided to go back to school online with ChildBirth International and get my certificate to be a Birth Doula.
