Emily’s Story:

Emily believes all the experiences and learning she has done throughout her life has led her to Doula work. She understands the depth of the fact that childbirth, along with death, are the universally shared human experiences — and the portals to our physical reality. She is deeply passionate about and honored to exist in these liminal spaces as a Birth, Postpartum & Death Doula, Educator, and Social Justice Advocate. Emily has sat on the Doula Advisory Committee to the Nevada Certification Board since 2021, collaborating with birth workers across the state on implementing Doulas into the state's Medicaid coverage. She values freedom, wholeheartedness and integrity in everything that she does.

While currently living in Reno, Emily has supported families across the U.S. and internationally throughout their career. They bridge their love of travel and exploring different cultures with a curiosity to discover and learn about birth and death practices that communities have used for millennia. After Doula work found them in 2019, they completely shifted their life to pursue this path and have never looked back. They hold a degree in Environmental Science and Ecology, which has oriented their approach to life and Doula work with an awareness that what we do individually ripples out beyond ourselves and into the larger collective. Each experience they share with their clients has solidified this path not just as a career, but a purpose to serve.

In 2021 she founded her practice, Doula Purposes, where she guides people and families to transform through knowledge, self-trust & community as preparation for their transitions into parenthood and the end of life. Emily encourages people to connect with their innate power and wisdom by strengthening their relationship with the four essential elements of the Self: mind, body, heart & spirit. She maintains a lens of Trauma-Informed Care that she brings to her work, helping clients to utilize holistic support practices to bolster their confidence and nurture healing. She walks alongside people holding safe, non-judgemental space for "humans to human" in all the joy and grief that life brings, and her unique perspective as a companion through birth and death transitions remind her that each moment is a precious opportunity to live.

She spends her free time being laid upon by her fellow Pisces kitty (Onyx), playing in the river, learning new crafts, traveling to visit friends, family and destinations near and far, watering her plants, listening to podcasts and daydreaming about ideas for her life, business & community.
