Rachael’s Story:

Rachael is a postpartum doula and Integrative Lactation and Feeding Specialist in Winnemucca, Nevada, where she lives with her husband, two kids, and their dog.

Rachael found her way to birth and postpartum work after the birth of her children. As cliché as it sounds, becoming a parent was such a life-changing experience for her. She didn’t know what she didn’t know, and while she devoured so much information before birth, she felt like there was a lot left out of the popular books that she’d read.

When Rachael became a mom, she realized how little care and support birthing people receive once baby is born. She had read the baby books and prepared for birth, but she had no clue how to take care of HERSELF once her baby was in her arms. She was shocked at how it changed her marriage, her mind (first postpartum anxiety and later postpartum depression - both undiagnosed), and her identity. Rachael spent her second pregnancy primarily focusing on preparing herself for postpartum, and between that and experience, she had the best fourth trimester she could have imagined - despite giving birth in a pandemic and learning how to juggle being a mom of two.
